Industry Association Awards

Emergency situational assessment, determining the appropriate level of response, and communication to the field are all elements of emergency response that can take precious time.  During events such as the one highlighted in this case study that are highly publicized and well attended, it is crucial that field commanders have a high level of situational awareness and tools available to them that make emergency response easier and more efficient.

GeoComm, which is headquartered in St. Cloud, Minnesota, recently worked with the City of Minneapolis, U.S. Bank Stadium, and the Minneapolis Police Department to develop GeoComm Smart City Map and Smart Venue Map.  This software combines 3D and indoor maps with the “Internet of Things,” emergency incident location, and indoor/outdoor responder tracking to connect people and devices into a system for real-time analysis, visualization, and communication that can streamline incident response).

In 2018 GeoComm Smart City Map and Smart Venue Map software was recognized at two different conferences for the role it plays in providing Smarter Security Through Three-Dimensional Mapping.

National Center For Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) Golden Eagle Award

In July 2018 GeoComm received the Golden Eagle Award at the NCS4 Conference and Exhibition.  This award recognizes the excellence in system integration, architecture, engineering and/or construction specifically related to the safety and security of spectators, property and infrastructure.  In addition, this award considers the critical design and functionality elements that enable and promote the safety and security of all stakeholders in an effective and efficient manner.

To be considered for this award GeoComm had to complete a series of questions overviewing the specific security issue we were hired to mitigate, how we approached this project, details about our software solution, and were we successful in solving our customers problem.  Our submission was reviewed by a panel of industry experts and we were selected as one of three finalists.  As a finalist GeoComm had 15 minutes to present on the project and show our case study video during the conference.  After all three finalist were able to present, each individual attending the conference (approximately 400 people) had the opportunity to select the winner.  Receiving this award directly from people in the industry who will be utilizing and effected by our software is a true testament to the value it brings to the market.

Esri Special Achievement in GIS Award

The Minneapolis Police Department, City of Minneapolis, and U.S. Bank Stadium received the Special Achievement in GIS award at the 2018 Esri International User Conference recognizing their desire to implement innovative and one-of-a-kind GIS technology used to harness the strategic advantages of a Common Operating Picture (COP).  In turn, GeoComm was highlighted in this award for their role in providing them ground-breaking new system and detailing how it improves their emergency situational awareness, readiness, and responsiveness.

Each year approximately 175 Esri SAG award winners are personally selected by Esri President and founder Jack Dangermond for their desire to set new precedents throughout the GIS community.  These award winners are then notified prior to the Esri UC conference and recognized during a special ceremony at the conference.  To learn more about the Esri SAG awards and see a list of the winners you can visit https://www.esri.com/en-us/about/events/uc/sag-awards
