Are you prepared for the upcoming Narrowbanding
Mandate?
The next year will be a busy time for public safety agencies across the
nation. The Federal Communications Commissions (FCC's) January 1,
2013 public safety narrowbanding mandate deadline is approaching, and
agencies will be devoting significant resources to planning for and
executing a smooth transition.
Action is required, but the task of figuring out options and the cost to be
compliant requires in depth knowledge of radio systems and the mandate.
Many agencies have this expertise on staff, but find it difficult to fit the
activity into an already busy work routine. Rather than risking inadequate
coverage and/or receiving hefty federal fines, let GeoComm help you out.
GeoComm Consulting Services has assisted numerous public safety
agencies to understand the impact of the Federal mandate and evaluate
options for compliance.
"Lincoln County selected GeoComm to complete an in-depth analysis of
our existing radio systems. We requested they provide us with options and
recommendations on how we could comply with the upcoming
Narrowbanding mandate. After thoroughly reviewing our system and visiting
with our responders, GeoComm's staff provided us with a detailed report
evaluating our current system as well as options and recommendations on
how we can migrate our system to a Narrowband mode of operation."

GeoComm's radio consultants travel to the agency's site and conduct a
high-level analysis of existing radio systems through a narrowbanding audit
of VHF and UHF radio systems that may be affected by the FCC mandate.
This analysis will aid in developing budgetary pricing for radio systems and
the equipment required to become compliant with current infrastructure and
for alternative solutions. The GeoComm project team can also review
current licenses and provide a summary of how they are each affected and
what actions need to be taken to modify the licenses for compliance.
With only twelve months remaining until the deadline, agencies must act
quickly to identify options, system upgrades, and improvements that are
needed to meet the mandate. The deadline is nearing...are you prepared?
“GeoComm’s GIS consultant Kathy Liljequist, GISP, is one of the nicest, most knowledgeable
people I have ever met within the public safety field. She is definitely an asset to our organization.
I look forward to working with her and GeoComm in the future.”
