"GeoComm was handed a challenge. Their staff has done an excellent job from the start to help the county through every hurdle that we have thrown at them. Jefferson County has looked at many reverse 911 systems. The GeoLynx EOC package was a perfect fit for us. The EOC package has allowed us to operate from our main emergency operations center (EOC) and if needed, our mobile EOC trailer which will greatly improve the safety of our responders and the citizens of the county. Since installation we have used many of the GeoLynx products we have purchased during incident responses. Improved accuracy during 9-1-1 calls and plotting a safe and quick route through GeoLynx Mobile for responders. There are so many more things that GeoComm and their products have done for us it is more than space will allow. What we can do is recommend to any county or city to look into their products. You won’t be disappointed."

Successful Map Data Maintenance Leads to GeoLynx Family of Products Purchase
In May of 2004, the Nebraska Public Service Commission (PSC) began actively assisting Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) and wireless carriers with the implementation of wireless E9-1-1. In an effort to coordinate the purchase of Phase II wireless equipment and services, the PSC issued an RFP soliciting best-in-class vendors. All responses were reviewed, and GeoComm was chosen as one of six preferred vendors. Jefferson County selected GeoComm as their vendor of choice for a five-year map data maintenance contract.

In addition to having their map data maintained by a third party, Jefferson County set out to integrate mapping into their Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. Initially, Jefferson County worked with their CAD vendor to attempt to integrate the mapping themselves. However, they realized this was not a good solution and requested GeoComm demonstrate how GeoLynx Desktop could be interfaced with CAD. During an onsite demo in July of 2009, Jefferson County learned more about the GeoComm’s GeoLynx Family of Products including GeoLynx Desktop, GeoLynx ENS, GeoLynx Mobile, GeoLynx AVL, and GeoLynx EOC.

The County was particularly interested in GeoLynx Emergency Operations Center (EOC) because of a recent train derailment. The train had been carrying coal, but County staff realized the derailment could have been something far more dangerous. In addition, Jefferson County found out that neighboring Gage County recently purchased GeoLynx EOC and was very happy with the product. If Jefferson County implemented EOC, it would prove beneficial to both counties as the systems could be configured so that both counties would be able to log into mutually hosted backup sites for emergency notification purposes in the event one of the systems went down.

Jefferson County also discovered that Nebraska PSC had made available disaster mitigation funding to deal with floods, tornados, wildfires, winter storms, hazardous chemical spills, and more. This funding could be used to purchase GeoLynx Emergency Notification System (ENS), a mass notification system. County emergency services staff recognized that combining GeoLynx EOC and GeoLynx ENS would give them an increased ability to react to disasters by providing situational awareness, a common operating picture, and Emergency Notifications Systems all within one browser.

Ultimately, Jefferson County purchased several products in the GeoLynx Family of Products, including GeoLynx Desktop, GeoLynx Mobile, GeoLynx AVL, GeoLynx ENS, and GeoLynx EOC. Jefferson County now has an integrated common operating picture for 9-1-1 calls, CAD events, vehicle locations, responder statuses, and emergency notification.
