GeoComm offered several new webinars this year that focused on GIS data development, accuracy, and maintenance. All items which are vital in an NG9-1-1 system. CLICK HERE to learn more about the webinars and watch a recording of them.
Maintaining GIS Data in a NG9-1-1 System Webinar
In an NG9-1-1 system, it is important to determine how you can maintain and manage the ongoing GIS data updates and who will be responsible. In this webinar, key members of GeoComm’s project teams discussed the options for managing and monitoring GIS data and the importance of:
- Database synchronization
- Standard processes
- Aggregating and coalescing GIS data from multiple authoritative sources
There are many options and steps to consider. Our team provided valuable insight for determining what approach makes the most sense whether you are a local, regional, or state operation.
This webinar will also summarized our previous webinars in the series regarding Assessing and Improving your GIS data for an NG9-1-1 system. If you would like to watch a recording of the webinar please CLICK HERE to have a link to the webinar recording e-mailed to you.
Prepare and Improve Your GIS Data for NG9-1-1 Webinar
Implementing a plan to improve your GIS data is a critical step for NG9-1-1 implementation. This webinar covered specific enhancements such as GIS data cleanup, remediation, and enhancements that are required or recommended for an NG9-1-1 system. Our project managers and project team members overviewed approaches to consider when improving the data and how the approaches are based on GIS assessments and industry best practices. With 20 years of experience, our team discussed our vast lessons learned and how those lessons can help you keep the data cleanup and remediation, data development, and MSAG/ALI/GIS synchronization processes as simple as possible.
This webinar also recapped our previous webinar on Assessing your GIS data for an NG9-1-1 system. If you would like to watch a recording of the webinar please CLICK HERE to have a link to the webinar recording e-mailed to you.
Assess Your GIS Data for NG9-1-1 Readiness: Getting Started Webinar
Across the country, those involved with 9-1-1 and GIS are maneuvering through the process of planning for a NG9-1-1 implementation. One component of the next system involves the mission critical role that GIS will have in NG9-1-1. The webinar showed attendees why consistent GIS data across a jurisdiction, region, or state will be the key to a successful NG9-1-1 system, and the steps you should take to assess your NG9-1-1 GIS readiness. Additional webinar key points included:
- Importance of educating stakeholders
- Developing standards (locally, at the regional or state level)
- Reviewing GIS data schemas
- Analysis of local GIS data that will feed into the overall system
GIS data integrity and readiness for 9-1-1 systems, especially NG9-1-1 systems, is our focus, and this webinar is your opportunity to learn from GeoComm project team members and determine how to get started. 3D The Next Dimension of Emergency Response Webinar
Learn what it means for you now that vertical and indoor 9-1-1 caller locations are coming to 9-1-1. NG9-1-1 supports indoor location via sub address elements including floor and room, and in early 2015, the Federal Communications Commission approved new rules for 9-1-1 call accuracy which for the first time includes elevation. This webinar covered the affect indoor location accuracy may have for public safety agencies and how agencies can prepare for these technological developments. In addition, webinar attendees learned about the findings and conclusions discovered during a pilot project GeoComm implemented to study 3D mapping and indoor wireless accuracy. Understanding the Role of the SIF in NG9-1-1 Webinar
GIS data in NG9-1-1 is a mission critical asset and the accuracy and timeliness of GIS data updates is a growing concern. Through the implementation of a Spatial Information Function (SIF), the continual GIS updates necessary in an NG9-1-1 system can be addressed. This webinar covered:
- The role of GIS in NG9-1-1
- Described what a SIF is
- Explained why a SIF is needed in NG9-1-1
- Highlighted expected SIF NG9-1-1 deployment models
- Showed what an end-to-end SIF system looks like

Maintaining Mission Critical Data in an NG9-1-1 Environment Webinar
In an NG9-1-1 system, GIS will be the mission critical database utilized for location validation and call routing. With NG9-1-1, GIS personnel will be asked to support public safety needs to an even larger degree than in the past. Local and state governments will be faced with new challenges which will need to be addressed. Through our National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) sponsorship we recently had the opportunity to host a webinar on Maintaining Mission Critical Data in an NG9-1-1 Environment. The webinar covered:
- The Role of GIS in NG9-1-1.
- An explanation of the importance of locally authoritative data and how the GIS data is aggregated at the regional or statewide level.
- A description of the ongoing support needed for NG9-1-1 GIS datasets.
- A presentation of two case studies: State of Maine and North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), describing their approach to GIS and NG9-1-1.
The webinar also includes a welcome by NSGIC President Shelby Johnson. If you would like to watch a recording of the webinar please CLICK HERE to have a link to the webinar recording e-mailed to you.
