“Thanks to the quick work of GeoComm, the test results were so successful, YECA went live that day, and was the first PSAP in California to accept the newly formatted telematic calls.”

GeoLynx first mapped ALI to plot telematics calls in California

Yolo Emergency Communications Agency (YECA) provides 9-1-1 and dispatch services for four law enforcement and 17 fire departments, within Yolo County. In December 2005, Yolo County implemented GeoLynx Dispatch Mapping after a GIS project completed by GeoComm.

On May 26, 2009 YECA, along with the State of California 9-1-1 office, conducted telematics testing with ATX and Intrado. During the testing, GeoComm was contacted to assist, and while on the telephone, was able to configure GeoLynx to recognize the TLMA class of service and plot the X/Y coordinates on GeoLynx in the YECA communications center, with no software modifications required. In the event YECA, or any communications center for that matter, are unable to communicate with anyone in the vehicle, the ability to plot the vehicle location using telematics technology is critical.

“Thanks to the quick work of GeoComm, the test results were so successful, YECA went live that day, and was the first PSAP in California to accept the newly formatted telematic calls,” stated Karen Avara, YECA Operations Manager.

While YECA is not receiving a large volume telematics calls at this time, the number of calls will increase in the future as more and more service companies test the capability and go live. YECA is now accepting telematics calls from ATX and OnStar and will be testing with another provider soon, stated Avara.

Receiving telematics calls is one of the critical elements of 9-1-1 response in a Next Generation environment, when part of the goal is to receive 9-1-1 calls from any device, anytime, anywhere.
