Job Summary:
The Software Developer reviews, analyzes, and modifies application
programs including design, coding, unit testing, debugging, and
installation. They will consult with both external and internal
customers to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program
objectives.
They are expected to write documentation to describe program development,
logic, coding, corrections, or manual for users to describe installation and
operating procedures. They are familiar with relational database software,
data communications software, and hardware. They rely on limited
experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. They work under
general supervision. Perform a variety of tasks. A certain
degree amount of creativity is required.
Essential Job Duties:
- Designs, builds, and maintains application systems. Has a working
knowledge of data communications, and hardware. Creates programs
applying knowledge of programming techniques and computer systems.
Applies GeoComm Standards and suggests improvement to the Standards. May
travel to customer sites to analyze issues and resolve them with
occasional help.
- Coordinates medium sized projects from design through
implementation. Creates schedules that are both aggressive and
realistic. Creates project plans that are flexibility and adaptable.
Focuses on project objectives.
- Communicates with Software Development Supervisor, Software
Developers, Technical Support, Installation Services, and Technical
Staff from other organizations to solve operational issues. Develops
ability to communicate through professional development and skills
training. Prepares a
regular status report of
projects in process. Meets with the Software Development Supervisor on a
regular basis to discuss progress and variations from the original
business requirements and technical approach used in the project.
Creates appropriate documentation.
- Proficient in appropriate programming languages and SQL.
- Proficient in appropriate map engines, relational database systems,
and other software components.
- Proficient in appropriate GeoComm Software Products.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in BCIS, CS, or GIS
Related Experience:
2 - 5 years
Desirable Training and Experience:
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with other company personnel.
- The ability to perform highly responsible assignments requiring
experience, judgment, and discretion for effective completion.
- A detailed knowledge of and/or experience in the GIS industry.
- Knowledge of Visual Studio, ASP AJAX, SQL Server, ArcObjects,
MapObjects, Visual Basic, MapX, and other GIS related software programs
- Working knowledge of standard IBM computer hardware and Microsoft
computer software programs.
