Lucas County, Iowa and GeoComm receive 2009 M2M Value Chain
Award
St. Cloud, MN: GeoComm, a leader in public safety consulting, software,
and Geographic Information Services (GIS), is a recipient of a 2009 M2M
Value Chain Award for their part of the implementation of a sophisticated
E9-1-1 management system in Lucas County, Iowa. These awards highlight
the process of combining multiple technologies such as radio modules,
network service, application software, and infrastructure and show how all
the elements of the M2M value chain created a winning solution for the end
customer. In the case of Lucas County, GeoComm worked with products
from three other companies (Cypress Solutions, Kyocera Wireless, and US
Cellular) to create a solution that enables real-time communication and map
sharing between emergency vehicles and the dispatch center which
improved emergency services. GeoComm along with Cypress Solutions
received the Silver award in the public safety category.
This new system benefits the residents of Lucas County by increasing the
response time of emergency services and allows them to be more efficient
and accurate which can ultimately save lives. “With this technology, we are
able to see the location and status of our response vehicles on a map in our
9-1-1 Center. We are also able to transmit maps and other critical
information right to the in-vehicle mobile computers which is crucial to
delivering the fastest and best possible care in emergency situations,” said
Tim McGee, 9-1-1 Coordinator, Lucas County Iowa.
The winners of the Value Chain Awards are determined by an independent
panel of industry analysts and experts. Entries are judged on the overall
strength of the deployment, especially the level of innovation and the
business value obtained. The award was presented to GeoComm at a
ceremony on June 11, 2009 in Chicago, IL as part of the M2M magazine’s
fifth annual Connected World conference.
